History
Over 20 years ago the need arose to organize the city’s non-profit agencies, city departments and community minded citizens for the purpose of sharing volunteer resources and ideas. These meetings evolved into the Medicine Hat Volunteerism in Action Association (VIAA). VIAA was incorporated as a Society on December 3, 1991 and was granted Registered Charity Status on June 1, 2001. VIAA’s mission is to promote best practices in the volunteer community of Medicine Hat and district by offering services and support to volunteers, not-for-profit agencies, individuals and the community.
After many years of not having a permanent home for monthly meetings, phone access, record keeping, volunteer registry or resources, the members of VIAA accepted an offer of space from one of its members to open a volunteer centre. The Volunteer Centre opened on September 26, 2000.
We are now located at
